Great Public Spaces – Where to find us in your community
The Public Space Division in the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment creates enduring value for the community through enabling and championing the need for connected, accessible and quality public space.
Public Spaces are free, open and readily accessible to everyone, from libraries to sporting fields, streets, town squares to gardens and museums, public spaces are magnets for community. They are places of gathering, culture and activity for community benefit.
We keep people and communities at the heart of our thinking for the future of NSW. We partner with local government and industry to deliver place-based outcomes for the community, while building trust, public benefit and social value.
We bring together expertise in placemaking, place management, parks and gardens leadership, landscape architecture, cultural infrastructure and strategy, history and shaping narrative, events and programming; underpinned by skills in urban planning, policy and law.
We coordinate the delivery of The Premiers Priority of Greener Places ‘to increase the proportion of homes in urban areas within 10 minutes’ walk of quality green, open and public space by 10 percent by 2023’.
