Hunter Water is developing a Hunter River Estuary Wastewater Masterplan to guide how wastewater from five wastewater treatment works is managed over the next 30 years.
Five of our region’s major treatments plants in Farley, Kurri Kurri, Raymond Terrace, Morpeth and Shortland, release treated wastewater to the Hunter River Estuary. All five plants will likely reach capacity within five to fifteen years.
We need to invest in upgrading the facilities to ensure they are ready to meet future population and industrial growth. The purpose of the Masterplan is to understand how to maximise any investment we make to ensure we get the best outcome for the Hunter River Estuary, the broader community and our customers.
