Enabling housing development for Dunedin’s current and future residents is a key work programme for Dunedin City Council.  The City Development team is currently taking a wide view of options to provide for additional housing in the city for the next 30 years’ growth.

The work includes considering where additional housing could be enabled by rezoning areas for new residential development (‘greenfield rezoning’) or for increased housing development in existing urban areas (‘intensification’).  Changes may be incorporated through a variation to the Second Generation District Plan (2GP) in 2020, or through future plan change processes or Council strategies.
